Coastal Style Mudroom Entryway
Between muddy boots, backpacks, and a perpetually dirty dog, our mudroom entryway was a mess. Now that it’s had a coastal style refresh it’s one of my favorite spaces in our home!
Last week I showed you the moodboard I created for our mudroom entryway. I am so glad to have this space updated and refreshed!

If we’ve been friends a while you may remember our last mudroom refresh way back in 2010! You can see the post here if you promise not to judge, remember it was 9 years ago! Blogging has changed and my photography skills have improved a bit! Side note- look how little my babies were! Oh how I miss them being tiny!
Entryway Command Center
Command Center Must Haves-
- Basket or bin to catch kid’s papers, mail,
things that my family is too lazy to put in it’s correct spot, etc. - Decorative items and personal touches
- Calendar
- Menu Board and Magnetic Board
Entryway Photo Wall
Displaying photos of people and places you love most in your entry allows everyone entering your home to see them.
We built these photo ledges and stained them the same color as the top of the command center stand.
They were pretty easy to build but if you aren’t looking for a diy project, you can purchase similar ones here and here.
I love that the photo of Topsail Inlet (lower right) matches the colors of our runner perfectly!
Mudroom Bench
Every entryway needs a mudroom bench for putting on shoes.
We built this bench using plans from my friend, Sandra (Sawdust Girl),
Her plans are great and easy to follow.
We painted the bench white to match the bins and coat area above.
Under the bench, we keep our shoes and boots in the boot tray we made using salvaged wood.
You can find the tutorial for that here.
Mudroom Storage
In a mudroom this small that works this hard, storage is essential!
We built the cubbies using a bookshelf mounted on the wall.
Cute baskets were added with metal numbered tags.
We mounted boards horizontally on the wall and painted them white.
Then we added hooks for coats, scarves, backpacks, etc.
This area is amazing storage; it holds so much of our mudroom stuff!
Mudroom Entryway Flooring
Entryway flooring needs to be durable and easy to clean. For our mudroom, we opted for laminate flooring.
It can handle all the sand that comes in and scratches from Penny’s toenails.
Update– it’s been a couple of years now and this flooring still looks great!
We added this pretty runner . I love the coastal colors in it and that it’s machine washable.

This is such a lovely space!! What a room to come home to! That ceiling makes my heart sing! Is it bead board that comes in 4′ x 8′ pieces? It looks so good!
Thanks Cindy! It’s nice to have a pretty space where we can drop everything! Yes, that’s just a sheet of beadboard, super easy to do. When we moved in this space was one large room like an office and it had drop ceiling tiles glued to the ceiling. It wasnt pretty!
